Karen’s Past Accomplishments
- Championed Community Spaces: Led the development of Patriots Park and Cherokee County’s first Miracle Field, creating valuable recreational assets for our community.
- Enhanced Fire & EMS Services: By strategically restructuring Cherokee County Fire/EMS, we created pathways for experienced personnel to advance into leadership roles, rather than hiring externally. This coupled with additional resources, enabled the agency to earn national and state accolades.
- Legislative Advocacy: Lobbied the Board of Commissioners to clarify the 1996 resolution on English language usage and advocated for landlords to utilize the SAVE program.
- Established Annexation Framework: Served on the Annexation Negotiation Team, developing a structure to address and negotiate annexation disputes, which led to the passage of key legislation in 2007 still in use today.
- Created The Tree Preservation Committee: Established the Cherokee County Tree Preservation Committee to promote responsible environmental stewardship.
- Focused on Thoughtful Development: Actively worked to ensure thoughtful architectural design and overall development that preserves the character of our community and enhances property values, as demonstrated by efforts on Sixes Road and the development at Sixes and Ridge Road.
Issues That Matter to Me (and You!)
Public Safety & Crime
Ensuring the safety and well-being of our community is paramount. In the past, I demonstrated my commitment by fostering strong relationships with law enforcement and advocating for policies that promote responsible resource allocation. My support for the 1997 English-First Resolution and the SAVE Program reflected my dedication to maintaining clear community standards. I will bring that same dedication to the Board of Commissioners, prioritizing public safety and the well-being of all our residents.
Traffic Congestion & Road Improvements
In 2004, as a concerned citizen, I chaired the SPLOST Committee. Collaborating with fellow residents, we secured funding for key community priorities, including vital road and transportation improvements that ease our commutes, a modern Fire/EMA Training Facility protecting our families, enhanced parks and recreation spaces we enjoy, and the airport expansion that connects us. I am committed to proactive problem-solving and delivering real results for our community.
Responsible Growth for Cherokee County
My proactive approach to growth management is a matter of record. In 2006, I supported the Study Plan that resulted in initiatives like the Bells Ferry Livable Center and Oak Grove Master Plan, ensuring sustainable development. I will bring that same proactive leadership to the Board of Commissioners so decisions we make will ensure that Cherokee County remains the “best place to live” in Georgia.
